Documentation Engineering Technician
Job Description
The Documentation Engineering Technician at G3 Boats supports the design, development, and production of high-quality aluminum boats by maintaining accurate and timely engineering documentation. This role ensures the integrity of bills of materials, CAD drawings, and manufacturing data used on the production floor. Working closely with engineering, production, and compliance teams, the technician helps bring new boat models from concept to production while supporting continuous improvement, efficient material usage, and adherence to marine industry standards.
Key Responsibilities-
Bill of Materials (BOM) Management
Assist in the creation, maintenance, and updates of BOMs, including processing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Product Change Orders (PCOs). -
CAD Drawing & Documentation Support
Develop, revise, and maintain CAD drawings using Autodesk tools (AutoCAD/Inventor preferred). Create detailed part, assembly, and line drawings for prototype and production use. -
Technical Documentation & File Management
Record dimensions, fabrication methods, and storage locations within drawings. Maintain accurate and organized engineering drawing files across all product lines. -
CAM & Manufacturing Support
Generate and issue CAM files for CNC and plasma cutting equipment. Create optimized part nesting layouts to improve material usage and minimize waste. -
Prototype & Product Development Support
Support new product development by documenting prototype builds, monitoring design implementation, and capturing changes required prior to production release. -
Regulatory Compliance Support
Assist in ensuring product compliance with NMMA, ABYC, and U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) standards and regulations. -
Documentation of New Designs
Contribute to the documentation and tracking of new product designs and engineering changes. -
Project Support
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager or Supervisor.
Qualifications & Skills

Technical Expertise
- Proficiency in CAD software (Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor preferred)
- Working knowledge of bills of materials and engineering documentation processes

Preferred Qualifications & Certifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in an engineering documentation, drafting, or manufacturing support role (marine or transportation industry preferred)
- Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
- Familiarity with CNC machining, plasma cutting processes, and nesting software
- Working knowledge of marine industry standards (NMMA, ABYC, USCG regulations)
- Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP) in AutoCAD or Inventor
- Certification in CAD drafting/design or equivalent technical training
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement training (e.g., Six Sigma Yellow/Green Belt preferred)
- Basic understanding of ERP systems and manufacturing workflows
