Job Summary

The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology is currently recruiting for a Research Laboratory Technician Senior in a neurobiology lab.  The Research Technician will work closely with principal investigator, PhD students, and undergraduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to play an integral role in both lab management and conducting experiments. Research will involve animal mouse, muscle/brain dissection, confocal fluorescence microscopy, molecular biology, and mouse husbandry. The Research Technician can expect excellent training and mentorship towards a scientific career.

The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology conducts basic research about the function of all branches of life - bacteria, plants, and animals. The research portfolio includes more than 40 sponsored awards, amounting to more than $8 million. 

We are also home to the more 300 students each year who graduate with majors in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology; plant biology; biology, health and society; and microbiology.

Responsibilities*

The Research Technician will work closely with principal investigator, PhD students, and undergraduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to play an integral role in both lab management and conducting experiments. Research will involve animal mouse, muscle/brain dissection, confocal fluorescence microscopy, molecular biology, and mouse husbandry. The Research Technician can expect excellent training and mentorship towards a scientific career.
80% Conduct experiments - research will involve molecular biology, biochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, tissue dissection, and mouse husbandry.
20% Functional supervision of 1-2 undergraduate students

Required Qualifications*

The position requires a B.A. or B.S. degree in an appropriate discipline such as a biological science or biochemistry.  It is necessary to have at least 1 year of experience in a research lab with an expertise in Molecular and cell biology. It is essential that the candidate have the willingness to work with laboratory animals (mice), self-motivated, and able to work as part of a team for general lab duties. 

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

THIS IS A ONE (1) YEAR TERM LIMITED APPOINTMENT (with a possibility of renewal for a second year depending on performance and availability of funding.)
